MIAMI -DADE COUNTY LEADERSHIP
Miami-Dade County is overseen by a County Mayor — currently Daniella Levine Cava.
The County Mayor is an executive role, meaning she manages county departments, proposes budgets, and oversees countywide services such as transit, police (MDPD), housing, transportation, and public safety.
City of Miami Leadership
The City of Miami operates under a different structure.
The City has a ceremonial Mayor, who:
Veto ordinances or resolutions approved by the City Commission
Recommend or advocate for legislation
Provide citywide vision and leadership
Represent the City publicly
city commissioners
Each commissioner represents a district (like District 2 – Damian Pardo and District 5 – Christine King).
Collectively, they form the City Commission, which is the decision-making body.
They vote on laws, zoning items, budgets, city policies, and major projects.

City Manager
The City Manager, James Reyes, is responsible for:
Running the City’s day-to-day operations
Implementing policies adopted by the City Commission
Local leadership shapes our everyday lives, and when we understand how our government is structured, we gain the confidence to get involved, speak up, and influence real change. Informed neighbors create stronger communities and Brickell is stronger when we lead together.
