GOVERNMENT MEETING · CITY OF MIAMI
City Commission Watch: October 8, 2026
The Miami City Commission meets Thursday, October 8, at 9:00 a.m. Below are several items that may be particularly relevant to Brickell residents, condominium leaders and the broader urban core.
Construction-Fence Advertising Pilot
Items SR.1 and PZ.6
The Commission is considering final approval of a pilot program that would allow off-site commercial advertising on certain construction-site fencing within Miami's urban core.
A related Miami 21 amendment would update the City's zoning regulations to reference the new pilot program.
Construction Materials in the Public Right-of-Way
Item FR.2
A proposed ordinance would require construction-related materials, equipment, devices and signs to be removed promptly from streets and sidewalks when they are no longer authorized or reasonably necessary.
This is particularly relevant in neighborhoods experiencing significant levels of active construction, where equipment, barricades and other materials can affect pedestrian access and the public realm.
Downtown Policing
Item DI.4
Commissioners are scheduled to receive an update regarding the Downtown COPS Urban Policing Grant.
Public safety and adequate policing resources in Miami's urban core remain important issues for residents and businesses throughout Brickell and Downtown.
City Crime Statistics
Item DI.3
The Commission will also discuss updated crime statistics following the first 100 days under new police leadership.
EV-Ready Parking and Development
Item PZ.5
Commissioners will consider changes to Miami 21 related to electric-vehicle-ready parking. The proposal would modify existing EV parking requirements and allow reductions in required parking when qualifying EV-ready spaces are provided.
Capital Project Funding
Item RE.1
The Commission will consider reallocating approximately $45.99 million within the City's multi-year capital plan.
BHA is reviewing the underlying project list to determine whether any Brickell or Downtown infrastructure projects are affected.
Why BHA Monitors City Hall
Many decisions affecting daily life in Brickell begin as individual City Commission agenda items, from construction and transportation to public safety, development and the public realm.
BHA reviews Commission agendas to identify proposals that may affect our neighborhood and to help residents and condominium leaders stay informed before decisions are made.
