Together for a Cleaner Coast: International Coastal Cleanup Recap

Don’t just talk about it — be about it. That was the spirit behind this year’s International Coastal Cleanup Day, and our community showed up. Together we had a wonderful time cleaning up the ocean and our roadways, and we’re so thankful for the volunteers who gave their time and energy.

The initiative has been making an impact for 40 years, and this marks the fourth year that the Brickell Homeowners Association has participated. Each year we grow more proud of the work we do side by side.

We’re especially grateful to our sponsors who made the day possible: BioResponse Restoration, Affinity Management, Brickell on the River South, Christ Fellowship, and GlobalPro. Special thanks to the leaders who came out in person—Matthew Sengsourinh; Manny Pozo, who even brought his boat; Chris Cooney with Affinity Management; Jess Barrera with Christ Fellowship; and Maritza Gonzalez with Brickell on the River South, along with her staff, who were such wonderful hosts and joined us on this initiative.

We also want to recognize our BHA team Ernesto Cuesta, Maritza Gonzalez, Alejandro Martinez, Federico Baroglio and Abby Ape for their leadership and commitment in making this effort a success.

And we’re excited to share some good news: Matthew Sengsourinh and Manny Pozo will now lead as Environmental Committee Chairs, focusing on environmental issues, hurricane preparedness, and natural disasters, preparedness and prevention. Both have been instrumental in past charitable initiatives, including the post hurricane drive for Hurricane Helene victims and supporting Fresh Cuts and Kicks. Fresh Kicks & Cuts™ seeks to ensure people in these disaster zones have shoes on their feet and a fresh haircut, helping hurricane victims to feel their best and look their best during these trying times.

You can catch a special on Local10News with Louis Aguirre. And while the event only happens once a year, caring for our environment is something we can live out daily. Small actions, practiced consistently, keep our community healthy and beautiful. We look forward to doing it again in the years to come!
