Working Together in the Community: A Collaborative Walkthrough with District 3
There’s a difference between email updates and in-person conversations—because when we connect face-to-face, momentum builds and relationships become real. This community walkthrough was a clear example of that in action.
The walkthrough kicked off with strong momentum, bringing together key city leaders and departments to address neighborhood concerns firsthand. Among those in attendance were Juvenal Santana from the Resilience and Public Works Department, Code Compliance, Luis Gomez (Field Supervisor – Southeast District), Commander Gonzalez, NRO Danny Rodriguez, Sergeant Freddy Mesa, and David Dixon (Solid Waste Assistant Director), alongside District 3 staff, Moises Hernandez, Aileen Rodriguez (Crime Prevention Specialist, MPD), and other City leaders.
Also in attendance was strong resident leadership, including representatives from the Icon Tower 3, The Icon Tower 1, the Mark, 1060 Brickell, 500 Brickell, Courts at Brickell, Axis, Brickell Flatiron, Brickell Terrace, South Miami Avenue, and District 2 residents.
By revisiting previously identified areas, staff leadership provided real-time updates and solutions, demonstrating a coordinated, hands-on approach to community improvement. The walkthrough proved highly effective, as issues spanning Code Compliance, Solid Waste, and Public Works were addressed collaboratively streamlining responses and accelerating progress.
This effort was made possible through the leadership of Commissioner Escalona, whose initiative to bring city departments together continues to strengthen accountability, visibility, and results for residents.
Most importantly, residents expressed genuine appreciation for the opportunity to engage directly with city leadership. While communication often happens through emails and service requests, this walkthrough created a meaningful opportunity to put faces to names and continue building strong partnerships within the community.
Together, we are building a stronger, more connected community, one block at a time.
