5th Street Play Spot Project Moves One Step Closer to Reality
The vision for a new community playspace in Brickell is moving forward, bringing us one step closer to delivering a long-anticipated amenity for residents and families in the neighborhood.
Originally championed by Commissioner Higgins, the initiative continues under the leadership of Commissioner Vicki Lopez, reflecting a strong commitment to enhancing quality of life and creating more family-friendly spaces in our urban core.
Project Update & Timeline
The 5th Street Play Spot Project is the third in a series of initiatives transforming small, underutilized transit spaces into vibrant community parks.
The project is currently in the procurement phase, with several key milestones already underway:
RFI Period Closed: February 2026
Bids Submitted: March 5, 2026
Bid Evaluation Completion (Anticipated): April 4, 2026
Contract Award (Estimated): April 19, 2026
Following the contract award, the project will move into permitting and personnel qualification, expected to take approximately 45 days, with completion projected around June 3, 2026.
Construction is anticipated to begin shortly after, with the Notice to Proceed (NTP) expected in June 2026.
Looking Ahead
Once construction begins, the project is expected to span approximately 330 days, with substantial completion projected by May 2027.
This timeline reflects a significant step forward in bringing a dedicated, thoughtfully designed playspace to the Brickell community, something residents have long advocated for.
