Major Construction Accident Reported on Brickell Bay Drive
This morning, a major construction accident was reported along Brickell Bay Drive involving a pile-driving rig at a construction site.
The incident resulted in the closure of a portion of Brickell Bay Drive between SE 12th and SE 13th Streets, and several people were taken to the hospital.
Our thoughts are with those who were injured, their families, and everyone impacted by what happened this morning. Based on reports so far, the injuries are not considered life-threatening.
TRAFFIC IMPACTS
Traffic in the surrounding area has been significantly affected by the road closure.
Residents, employees, and visitors traveling through the area should plan ahead, allow additional travel time, and consider alternate routes when entering or leaving the neighborhood.
We encourage everyone to use caution around the affected area while City crews, first responders, and inspectors continue their work.
A RECURRING CONCERN
As one of Miami’s most active development areas, Brickell continues to experience significant construction activity alongside thousands of residents, pedestrians, businesses, and daily commuters. The last incident was a crane collapse in early August, you can learn more about it here.
BHA continues to raise questions with the City regarding construction safety oversight in our neighborhood and will keep advocating for stronger accountability, clearer communication, and answers for residents.
Our community deserves to understand how construction sites are being monitored, what safety measures are in place, and what steps are being taken when serious incidents occur.
WHAT’S NEXT?
BHA will continue closely monitoring the City’s response and engaging with City leadership as additional information becomes available.
We will advocate for clear answers on behalf of our community, including a better understanding of what occurred, how the incident is being investigated, and whether additional measures are necessary to protect residents and the surrounding neighborhood.
We also plan to share the latest information at our next BHA Breakfast Briefing and will continue following official City briefings and updates related to this incident.
STATEMENTS FROM CITY LEADERSHIP
Several local officials have shared public statements regarding today’s incident.
Construction and development are part of Brickell’s continued growth, but that growth must also come with appropriate oversight, communication, and a strong commitment to public safety.
BHA will continue asking questions, communicating with City leadership, and keeping our members and residents informed as more details become available.
