BHA Summer Breakfast Briefing Recap: Connection, Leadership, and Community Advocacy

We had a great morning at our BHA Summer Breakfast Briefing Presented by Energy Source. Thank you to everyone who joined us, condo board members, property managers, residents, community partners, city leadership, sponsors, and local candidates.

The room was full, but more importantly, it was engaged. These briefings are not just about gathering in one place. They are about staying informed, building relationships, and making sure the issues affecting Brickell are being heard. We began the morning with a moment of silence for Venezuela led by President Ernesto Cuesta. We paused together to honor the many lives lost and families affected.

From there, we opened the briefing with Miami-Dade County Commissioner Vicki L. Lopez, who shared updates with our members and continues to stay connected to the needs of our community.

We were also honored to welcome City of Miami Police Chief Edwin Lopez for his first BHA Breakfast Briefing since being sworn in as Chief. Public safety remains one of the most important issues for Brickell, and having direct communication with police leadership matters. It helps our condo leaders better understand what is happening in the neighborhood and gives us a stronger line of communication when concerns arise.

We then heard from City of Miami Commissioner Rolando Escalona, who continues to be present and engaged with the Brickell community. We are grateful for the ongoing relationship we have with both our city and county leaders, and for their willingness to show up, listen, and speak directly with our members.

Our presenting sponsors also had the opportunity to share more about their work. Thank you to Energy Source and Steven Sooby for joining us and supporting this briefing. We are also grateful to Microhub Solutions and Hendrick Bages for being part of the morning and helping us begin with such a thoughtful moment of reflection.

We also welcomed candidates running for Florida House District 113 and Miami Dade County Commission. Those who accepted the invitation and joined us were Bruno Barreiro, Frank Lago, and Joe Sanchez.

One of the biggest takeaways from the morning is something we talk about often: condo leadership does not stop at the building doors. As condo leaders, we have a responsibility to stay connected to city and county decision-makers, understand the issues shaping our neighborhood, and report back to the residents we serve.

Our advocacy work will continue throughout the summer. BHA will keep attending community meetings, meeting and emailing city leaders, and raising the issues we see throughout the neighborhood including public safety, sidewalks, traffic, lighting, infrastructure, parks, cleanliness, maintenance, and quality-of-life concerns.

We are also looking forward to our next Community Walkthrough with Commissioner Rolando Escalona on Monday, July 20. These walkthroughs give residents and condo leaders the opportunity to point out concerns on the ground, speak directly with city leadership, and work together toward practical solutions.
