COMMUNITY MEETING UPDATE: Demolition Protocol (Brickell Key Implosion)
Swire Properties recently held a community meeting focused on demolition protocols for the upcoming Brickell Key implosion. During the meeting, residents raised several important questions regarding traffic and access:
Resident Questions
Will the Brickell Avenue Bridge rising during the implosion cause additional traffic delays or backups?
Will Brickell Bay Drive be paused or closed, and how will that impact access and surrounding traffic (especially from 8th Street and beyond)?
We followed up directly with Miami Police and City officials—please see the confirmed updates below:
Bridge Operations (Brickell Avenue Bridge)
There is direct communication with the bridge operator. In the event of an emergency, officials can coordinate the bridge going up or down as needed.
Traffic Plan & Road Closures
A soft closure of the Brickell Key Bridge will begin at 7:00 AM, allowing only residents and employees to enter/exit
A full closure will take effect at 8:00 AM to clear all vehicles and pedestrians ahead of the 8:30 AM implosion
Brickell Bay Drive traffic will be redirected west onto 8th Street
Eastbound traffic at Brickell Avenue & 8th Street will be blocked
Traffic Control Measures
Officers will be stationed at key intersections to assist with traffic flow
A full Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) plan will be in place, including cones, signage, and barricades
What to Expect
Officials anticipate minimal traffic in the immediate area during the implosion window due to planned closures. Residents are encouraged to plan ahead and allow extra time for travel that morning.
