Miami Police to Add 300 Officers, Open New East District
Over the years, the Brickell Homeowners Association has consistently advocated for a stronger police presence in our neighborhood, and we’re encouraged to see progress being made. Miami Police have announced the creation of a new East District that will cover Brickell, Downtown, and Edgewater, supported by hundreds of additional officers. This step reflects the rapid growth of our community and reinforces the importance of safety and quality of life for everyone who lives, works, and visits here.
“We want to take lessons learned from other cities as their populations and businesses exploded and make sure we keep pace,” Chief Morales said. He explained the department will add 300 new officers over the next three years, with some assigned to the new East District. “Having more bodies here gives you the ability to do more initiatives, more crime fighting, more police visibility,” Chief Manny Morales said..
The change is welcomed by neighbors, who continue to raise concerns about safety and advocate for a stronger police presence.
