Time for a Broader Conversation on Public Safety in Brickell
As Brickell continues to grow into a world-class urban center, it’s time for a broader conversation about what it means to keep our neighborhood safe—not just through policing, but through policy, planning, and prevention.
While we are deeply grateful for the efforts of our local police and city partners, it is clear that Brickell’s current pace of growth has outpaced its safety infrastructure. From high-rise density and nightlife expansion to increasing foot traffic along the Baywalk, the environment has changed—and our response must evolve with it.
Among the issues that deserve urgent review is the city’s policy on alcohol sales, which currently allows establishments to serve until 5:00 a.m. Extended hours can contribute to late-night disturbances, disorderly conduct, and strain on limited police resources. We are asking the City to evaluate whether these hours continue to serve the best interests of a community where families, professionals, and children also reside.
This is not just about individual incidents—it’s about long-term quality of life. It’s about how we balance economic vibrancy with residential peace. And most importantly, it’s about restoring confidence that public safety is a shared, citywide priority.
We believe thoughtful change is possible—and that together, we can build a safer, healthier, and more livable Brickell for all.
