The Miami Herald reports that Brickell condo owners are calling on the City of Miami to take action against illegal short-term rentals and strengthen enforcement.

BHA President Ernesto Cuesta was quoted in the article:

“These are illegal rentals, illegal lodging, and if there are no consequences, we are going to continue sinking in the same boat.”

Ernesto Cuesta, BHA President

BHA has been advocating on this issue for years, working to bring greater attention to the impact of illegal and noncompliant short-term rentals on condominium communities, including concerns about security, noise, overcrowding, property damage, and the use of residential buildings as short-term lodging.

BHA also joined with community leaders to call for a coordinated City task force to address short-term rental enforcement across multiple City departments. That effort helped move the issue toward a broader City response.

The conversation is now receiving renewed attention as residents continue to call for clear rules, accountability, and effective enforcement.

Thank you to the Miami Herald for highlighting an issue that directly affects the quality of life of Brickell residents and condominium communities.

BHA will continue this conversation next week with a closed, members-only Short-Term Rental Lunch and Learn to further educate our membership, share concerns, and explore enforcement challenges and potential solutions.
