The prehistoric archeological site will be presented at the City of Miami's Historic Preservation Board meeting in a public hearing on Tuesday, April 4th, at 3 PM in City Hall. A presentation slide deck prepared for the hearing concludes the site meets several of the legal criteria for designation as a protected historic and archaeological landmark. RESULTS:

For the property located at 77 SE 5thStreet:

The proposal for designation was withdrawn. A directive was made that city’s Historic and Environmental Preservation staff, in coordination with the property owner and appropriate stakeholders, as the staff seems fit, to bring an action plan back to the Board for consideration within 6 months from the completion of the excavation. Excavation is determined to be complete when a fieldwork completion report is submitted and reviewed by staff. In the meantime, staff will provide monthly updates to the HEP Board of the progress of the excavation. 

For the property located at 444 Brickell Avenue: 

Approve the proposal for designation and bring the preliminary evaluation for review at the July meeting. The preliminary evaluation may include a management plan to outline procedures for future excavations. Staff will begin the initial study and draft a designation report to be presented at the July meeting.
